1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 d5 3. Bf4 {Getting my bishop out of the pawn chain} e6 4. e3 {
Supporting c4} Bd6 5. Bxd6 {Exchanging off the "bad" bishop seems okay.
Besides, I couldn't see a good way of supporting my bishop -- Ne2 blocks in my
light-squared bishop, Nh3 looks strange, and I don't think I like doubled f
pawns -- hence the exchange} Qxd6 6. c5 {Pawns covering the dark squares,
should work well with my bishop covering the light squares} Qe7 7. Bd3 {Not
sure if e2 is a better square for my bishop. It oversees a lot of space from
d3. Black's bishop is currently blocked by his pawn, so I don't anticipate
any Bg4 type moves pinning my knight on f3 (when it eventually gets there).
Also, ...Ng4 is not possible. Hence I didn't consider Be2.} e5 {Good move! I
did not consider this response. My pawn on d4 is not protected because of the
pin on the e file.} 8. Ne2 {Supporting d4, with plans for Qa4+ if black grabs
the d4 pawn.} exd4 9. Qa4+ c6 10. Qxd4 {I didn't see a good square for the
knight after Nxd4. The queen on d4 seems to me to be quite secure, and works
well in tandem with the light squared bishop.} Nbd7 11. b4 {The only way I
could see to support the pawn on c5} Qe5 12. O-O {Whoever initiates the queen
exchange allows the opponent's knight to hop into a good square. Hence,
keeping the tension in the center} O-O 13. Nd2 {Bringing the last minor piece
into the game. After Nc3, where does the knight go next? d2, then probably
f3 seems better.} Re8 {Increasing pressure on the semi-open e-file. I need to
be careful.} 14. Nf3 Qxd4 15. Nfxd4 {Not sure which knight I should take back
with. Nexd4 is probably better, but in the game I had ideas of advancing the
f pawn. That obviously didn't work out too well.} Nf8 {I should have tried to
figure out where that knight was repositioning itself. My immediate thoughts
at this point were that black's bishop is about to swoop into the heart of my
position if I'm not careful.} 16. h3 {Also, now my king has a flight square}
Ne6 {I did not consider this move at all} 17. Bc2 {This is a nothing move. I
spent quite a bit of time here. I don't see a good way to improve my position
at this point. Any pawn move I make induces weaknesses. A very delicately
balanced position (I think), and I'm clueless how I should proceed, or what my
opponent plans to do next} Nxd4 18. Nxd4 Re7 19. Rae1 Bd7 {Planning to double
rooks on the e file} 20. Re2 {Once again, I'm out of ideas, so I just mirror
my opponent} Rae8 21. Rfe1 Ne4 {This knight is a potential PITA} 22. Bd3 {And
the bishop is back on d3. The bishop-knight exchange doesn't look too
appealing} g6 23. Rc2 {A flawed idea. I was hoping to kick the knight back
with f3, and I didn't want it entering my territory on c3. But, of course,
after f3, the knight can take up residence on the newly -- and permanently --
weakened -- g3 square} Kg7 24. Kh2 {And now the black knight can't hop into g3
(if I can get f3 in)} Ng5 25. Rce2 Ne6 26. a3 {Another nothing/waiting move.
This is a disaster waiting to happen. I'm asking my opponent to come at me
while I maintain status quo} Nxd4 27. exd4 Rxe2 28. Rxe2 Rxe2 29. Bxe2 Bf5 30.
g4 Bc2 31. Kg3 f5 32. Kf4 Kf6 33. g5+ Ke6 34. h4 Bb1 35. h5 Bc2 36. h6 Bb1 37.
Ke3 {Starting to entertain thoughts of trapping the bishop} Be4 38. f3 Bb1 39.
Kd2 Ba2 40. Kc3 {I'd a few seconds on the clock. I think there might be
something here for white. From this point forth, my moves are all messy, and
probably not worth commenting on. The only vague plan I can see is to somehow
get the bishop to cross the barrier and place him on c8. Somehow...} f4 41.
Kd3 Kf5 42. Kc3 Kxg5 43. Bd3 Kxh6 44. Kd2 g5 45. Ke2 Bc4 46. a4 Bxd3+ 47. Kxd3
Kg6 48. Ke2 h5 49. Kf2 g4 50. Kg2 Kg5 51. b5 Kh4 52. bxc6 bxc6 53. a5 a6 54.
Kf2 Kh3 55. fxg4 hxg4 56. Kg1 Kg3 57. Kf1 Kh2 58. Kf2 g3+ 59. Kf1 g2+ {Well
played black! Positives: Did not leave the queen en prise. Negatives: Sucked
at time management, inaccurate play in the endgame. And now, without further
ado, over to Twipply!} 0-1
