1. e4 c5 2. Bc4 {a - didn't expect this move, wasn't sure how to reply} 2... e6 {a - was afraid of some checking shenanigans, so blocked that while supporting d5. b - using a game database, this looks like it was the best move after all} 3. Nf3 d5 4. exd5 exd5 5. Bb5+ Bd7 {c - the computer recommends 5 ..Nc6 as slightly better. I looked at this move, but didn't like the idea of doubling pawns if 6. Bxc6.} 6. Nc3 Bxb5 7. Nxb5 {a - this knight is a bit precarious now, especially since Qa5 is coming if white moves his d pawn} 7... Nf6 8. c3 {a - looked like preparation for Qa4, giving chance for a knight move with a discovered check, but didn't look like a real threat} 8... Be7 {a - after making this move, saw that a6 would have forced the knight to retreat to the corner} 9. d4 a6 10. Qa4 {a - almost took the knight, but noticed that my a pawn was now pinned} 10... Nc6 {a - removing the pin} 11. Na3 b5 {a - neutralizing the queen and preparing for a strong pawn on c4} 12. Qc2 c4 {c - instead of c4 I could have done 12 ..cxd4 13. cxd4 Bb4+, preventing black from being able to castle} 13. b4 O-O 14. O-O Ne4 15. g3 a5 {a - figured that 16.Nxb5 axb was winning a pawn for me. b - this ended up being the decisive move} 16. h4 Nxc3
{a - hadn't calculated this response, but suddenly realized that my pawn on a5 allowed Nxc3, since I can fork queen and knight if Qxc3} 17. Qxc3 axb4 18. Qe3 bxa3 19. Bxa3 {a - guessing that white did not notice my bishop also covering that square} 19... Rxa3 {A pretty solid game. According to the computer, I had an edge starting at move 8, which I continued to steadily increase. My only inaccuracies were at moves 12 and 5, both minor. Felt relaxed during the game. Used my pawns well to gain space and box my opponent's pieces in with tempo, and eventually to start off the winning combination.}
